Maya is the titular main protagonist of the Maya the Bee franchise. She is a young honeybee with yellow curly hair, yellow and black stripes and green eyes. She has a best friend named Willy. She is kind, good-natured, helpful and generous.
Personality[]
Maya is a kind and tomboyish, very intelligent young honeybee who loves freedom but unlike all the other bees, she lives in the meadow and not in the hive like everyone else. She is willing to help out anyone in need including her friends.

- Help a worm named Philibert find a new fruit to live in.
- Help Willy overcome his fear of “Shadow Creepies”.
- Help fix Shelby’s shell.
Maya is often nice, but in season 2, she can be a bit annoying and has rarely interacted with Theo and Hannah but in a few episodes she has. She and Willy seem to be the main bee characters.

- In the episode Jealousy, she has a crush on Willy.
- In the first movie, she believes that Buzzlina who took the royal jelly made the Queen pass away but she saved her from Buzzlina.
- In the comic book series, she had ginger hair instead of her usual blond.
- In the anime, Maya isn’t afraid of using her stinger for self defense or a warning to any threat. This is toned down in the 2012 tv series and movies where Maya would never use her stinger to protect herself. since Studio 100 wanted to make the 2012 series and movies as family-friendly as possible.
- In the movie, she is banished from the hive by Buzzlina for not following the rules, but it doesn’t last since The Queen had no agreement.
- In season 2, her personality changes.
- She was kind and helpful, but has become bossy towards Willy and tends to get into arguments more often.
- Although her name was 'Maya' in many languages and different ways to spell and pronounce it, there was a strange exception. In the Arabic dubs, her name was changed to 'zeina'. This was notable in the Arabic version of the intro. She was also known as 'nikko' in the Persian dub.
- In the episode 'Long Live Freedom', Willy is having a nightmare where he saw Maya appeared to be drunk while giving him a bowl of menthol broth.
